This painting reminds us to empty our mind in chaotic times, find relief in letting go of all that is leaving for it cannot remain, make peace inside yourself and with those you love, and even with those you don’t, absorb and transmit pure love by simply being present with yourself in the now moment. This painting reminds us that when we blow up what doesn’t work, what remains is what does work, and that is simply what is made from and rooted in pure LOVE.

In the quagmire
of the 2024 U.S. Election
I painted an abstract version
of a black and white
brick wall
Never a vision
before I paint
I just paint
what’s inside me
outside
on the canvas
then I stand back
and see
what came out
I’d been listening
to people talk
from all walks
of life
different cultures
casts
and communities
everyone
so binary
so for
or against
so this one
or that one
so red
or blue
so yes
or no
in or out
did you
or didn’t you?
So
in a bid for hopium
I wrote
BUILD A BRIDGE
across it
decided to live with it
and hung it
on my wall
A month later
I was bored
of looking at it
tired
of the hopium
that had no where to go
… there’s no bridge
being built
here
…. there’s no unity
transparency
or even functionality
in these puppets ideas
of community
growth
or harmony
So I turned it
from landscape
to portrait
and stuck it
back on the easel
to cover it up
and start again
…. the only real
politically correct
thing to do
in times like these
Haphazardly
throwing paint
no intention
no vision
bar the idea
of smudging out
my hopium
so full in the head
by all the nonsense
from all the stories
about all the wrong things
that have nothing to do
with the reality
I’m raising my child
to live in
Like living
in a game
I cannot
will not
play
yet I can’t find the door
to get the fuck out
so I sit
in the silence
of my own pure self
the brick wall disappears
and a head
takes its place
the stories in my own head
literally imploding
all the programs
running
detonate
into the ethers
releasing
the dumb ideas
I’d come to think
were mine
The archaic beliefs
and blatant lies
of a worn out paradigm
all coming up
in a transparent mess
for the whole world to see
what’s leaving
making room
for a new grid
birthing
new frequencies
through the purity
of the space that’s left
in the silence
of the deleted programs
flown from the mind
that locked us
in the jail
that made us forget
we were sovereign
all along
We are the polaticking time bomb
and we’re about
to go boom
And then maybe
just maybe
we can live
in a world
where war
and killing
is literally
inconceivable

This huge piece, being so large in size, needed a special place to reside…
I’d seen it on a staircase wall while painting it, and thought little of it.
Now it hangs on the wall that wraps a staircase… a statement reminding us each to think for ourselves, to let thought forms flow and to, above all else, be bold enough to be yourself.
I love the vibe, energy and layers in this piece. I love that my buyer felt the love this being emanates. And I love that I know where he’s landed.
I love this one.
I love the story I have of it.
And,
I’m excited for all the stories it will tell through the experiences of other viewers as they ascend and descend these stairs over the years to come.
My work is a collaborative experience… a conversation between me and the canvas as the painting itself is found …
and then more layers unfurl,
through the various viewers lens of perceptions and their different stories received through imbibing it’s vibe for, from and within a moment in time.
May the family of my buyers enjoy this painting hanging in their stairwell for many years to come. So grateful to you and all my buyers at The New Zealand Art Show 2025. That was one beautiful and fun experience to have had. I look forward to showing again there in 2027.
