The original artwork you have purchased from me is acrylic based and either on canvas or wood. Please hang your piece in a location with adequate, indirect light to prevent long-term fading from direct sunlight. Because acrylic paint is highly resistant to UV rays you don’t have to be too fussy over this, but keep an eye on it and if you notice any signs of it beginning to fade, shift it to a less sunny spot.
I normally choose not to frame using glass (it can create glare and reflections, and it gets dirty). I have finished all my pieces in some kind of varnish, whether satin, mat or gloss so that you can use open frames if you would like to frame your new piece.
All of my work so far is painted around the sides of the canvas so that the whole base is the painting and therefore does not need a frame. Some paintings though will be beautifully emphasized and enhanced by a frame and you as the collector has free choice to do with your new piece as you choose.
To clean the surface, gently wipe it, (do not scrub it), with a soft, damp cotton cloth in circular motions to remove dust and dirt. Never use ammonia, bleach, alcohol, turpentine, or other solvents, as they can damage the paint and remove the protective surface.
Sometimes when moving artwork around accidents happen and a canvas might become dented. A simple repair is to apply hot water from a spray bottle to the back of the canvas, or with a brush in an “X” pattern. Allow the canvas to dry and as it does it will contract and magically pull the dent out.
If something more severe happens and you manage to scratch or puncture your piece, you’d be best to find a skilled artist who can hopefully repair it by matching the paint and re-finishing the surface, making the damage nearly invisible.
One last thing, it is likely your art has some kind of texture on it in the form of molding paste or interior wall filler. Please treat it with care as it is not by nature prone to surviving rough treatment in being moved around. Try not to flex, tork or twist your artwork as that will make it prone to cracking. Everything is impermanent, and not everything can last forever, but if you treat your work with care it is bound to last beyond a life time.
What I love about acrylic paint especially is how durable and resilient it is, making it suitable for artwork placed homes with children, pets, and relaxed daily life living, as well as museums, galleries and all kinds of commercial spaces.
Take care of your piece and it will transform your life and space in it’s own unique way.
Yes I do commissions. As the collector you can choose the tone of color palette, what size you want, and whether you would like something bold or subtle, energetic or subdued. You can let me know the kind of space you want the piece for and we can talk about the mood you are going for. Other than those parameters we trust the process as collaborative and see what emerges. I will often paint two or three pieces at a time using the same parameters to give the collector choice as to which one they want. Commissions have a 25% non refundable deposit, but no commitment to purchase the end product if you truly don’t resonate with it.
